The U.S. minister to China will step down ahead of schedule one month from now, finishing a three-year residency set apart by an exchange war and progressively unpleasant relations between the world's two biggest economies.
Terry Branstad, designated by President Donald Trump in 2017, affirmed his choice in a call with Trump a week ago, the U.S. Consulate said in an announcement Monday. It didn't give a purpose behind his takeoff.
"I am proudest of our work in getting the stage one economic agreement and conveying substantial outcomes for our networks back home," he was cited as saying at an international safe haven staff meeting on Monday.
